Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How are participants selected for AgriFloristry?
AgriFloristry is a competitive program. While prior experience in agriculture isn’t required, it can be helpful. We look for applicants who show a strong interest in flower crops or Floriculture, sustainable farming practices, and long-term commitment to Hawai‘i’s agricultural landscape. Use your application to share about your passion and what you hope to gain from this course.
Do I need to have taken other GoFarm Hawai‘i programs, like AgXcel?
Nope! AgriFloristry is open to all experience levels. While prior exposure to farming is beneficial, it’s not a requirement.
Is this course hands-on?
AgriFloristry is a hybrid course that combines both online and in-person learning:
- Wednesdays (Online via Zoom): 5:30 – 7:30 PM
- Saturdays (Field Days): 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
During field trips, you’ll visit local flower farms and agricultural sites to get direct experience in real-world growing environments and hands-on learning.
Can I participate if I don’t live on O‘ahu or Hawai‘i Island?
At this time, AgriFloristry is only open to residents of O‘ahu and Hawai‘i Island, as field trips take place on those islands and are a required part of the course.
Should I apply to AgriFloristry if I’m not sure I can attend every class?
Applications are competitive, and we prioritize participants who can commit to attending all classes. However, we encourage everyone interested to apply, as we consider a variety of factors during the selection process.
How do the field trips work?
Each participant attends only the Saturday field trips on their home island:
- Oʻahu field trips: June 7, 14, 21, 28
- Hawai‘i Island field trips: July 5, 12, 19, 26
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to field sites. Carpooling is encouraged and may be coordinated with fellow students.
Do I need a computer or specific technology to participate in AgOrchard?
AgriFloristy has some technical requirements; the program requires use of platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom. Having access to a computer will make it easier to participate fully, but it is possible to join using apps on a smartphone or tablet. Familiarity with basic tech tools (e.g., joining Zoom meetings, accessing shared documents, etc.) is helpful, but support is available if you need assistance.
