Maui Relief and Recovery Resources

In response to the tragic wildfires that have taken place on Maui this August, we are compiling a list of resources we’ve seen to make sure our farming community has access. This is a living document so please message us at info@gofarmhawaii.org about anything that needs to be added or updated. Things are changing rapidly so this list is fluid and focused on relief & recovery. We don’t know everything, we just want to make sure we are sharing what we do know so you can decide how to take action. 

There is much work being done and more to do than we can even fathom as we rebuild our Maui community. We are working to align with leadership that is already in place and will be jumping into activation where we are needed and can best serve.

Immediate Update 8/24/23:

A message for visitors from other islands and out of state: West Maui is closed unless you have business or responsibility in that area. Other areas of the island are open and welcome visitors who still want to support our local businesses and families outside of the West Maui zone. If you do plan to visit please be mindful that our Maui community has suffered unimaginable loss and are still processing. Please be respectful and behave with compassion and consciousness while you are visiting any of our islands, but especially Maui during these uncertain times.

Update 8/15/23:

Material Donations:  Material donations are NOT needed at this time, especially clothing.

We ask the community to give intentionally and not send or donate trash or items that are meant to be thrown away. The best way to give is through one of the organizations listed below who are working directly with the the front line and have a list of needs already in place.

  • Maui Rapid Response – A collective disaster response organization made of up individuals from Maui Mutual Aid, Maui Strong, and other non profit organizations. 
    • Maui Mutual Aid Guide – A list of national and local organizations providing emergency aid, food distribution, and accepting donations 
    • Maui Nui Strong, County of Maui – A list of local organizations providing emergency aid, housing, and food distribution
  • Maui Hub– Farmers Market at your fingertips. Support your local farmers with online purchases through Maui Hub. Get free delivery and 50% off for EBT customers. 

Are You A Farmer? Organizations looking for Produce:

  • Chef Hui –  Chef Hui is rallying chefs and establishing food hubs on Maui by sourcing ingredients to create restaurant quality meals that sustain the lāhui during this time of need. Partnering with the following organizations to feed communities directly impacted by the wildfires.  Please email melissa@mpcreativeco.com or text (808)344-7569 what you or your business can donate (please include poundage).
    • Common Ground Collective – Fire relief sign up form, connecting fresh produce with those that are positioned to feed our impacted community members. Currently seeking volunteers with Food Handlers Permits, as well as general volunteer help.
    • World Central Kitchen and Hawaiʻi Ulu Co-op – The ʻUlu Co-op is working to support relief efforts for Maui fire refugees by donating Hawaiʻi-grown staples and other local crops for meal preparation efforts at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.  If you have produce that you’d like to sell to the co-op or donate to the relief effort, please contact info@eatbreadfruit.com with the crop type and estimated poundage you have available. At this time, all produce for this program is being aggregated at the ʻAlae Postharvest Facility in Hilo, Hawaiʻi Island, only.  Once they have received your information, they will follow up to confirm your delivery date and time.
