This chart is intended to help inform food buyers with their menu planning and buying strategies. The chart provides details on when 50 different types of vegetables and fruits are available from Hawaiʻi farmers throughout the year. It also lists production scale, storage requirements, and grow days to help buyers plan their work with local food growers.
The chart’s vegetables and fruits were selected with input from the Hawaiʻi Department of Education and others, aligning with work to increase local procurement and meet the goal of sourcing 30% of school meal ingredients locally by 2030.
CTAHR has a Memorandum of Agreement with the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity, the Hawaiʻi Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, the Agribusiness Development Corporation, and others to coordinate expertise and workforce development to support this goal. GoFarm Hawaiʻi and CTAHR Extension staff worked together to gather information on crop production and availability and validate with buyers and producers.
